The first information related to the extraction of marble from Carrara dates from the 1st century. B.C. At the time, marble was called “marmor Lunense”, since the extraction center was identified in the city of Luni, a colony founded by the Romans and the port where ships left for Rome.

Its main feature is its low porosity, which makes it more resistant to moisture than other types of marble.⠀
